Best Electric Food Slicers for Home Use
Top 5 Electric Food Slicers for Home Use
If you're shopping for electric food slicers you've probably found that they may be a little on the expensive side. There are many that fall into a lower price range, but most people who purchase those end up dissatisfied and frustrated with their purchase. Before you even consider pushing the "buy" button on any food slicer, make absolute certain that you are looking at the right machine for what you need.
When I was in the restaurant business, we had a very seriously heavy duty machine that did the job very well for us. It was really overkill for our needs, though. That thing was a beast. It was heavier than you could imagine and could cut through anything. It was great to have, when we needed it, but it wasn't something that was being used all day, every day. If we had purchased it new, it would have cost at least several thousand dollars. We only had it, because it was part of the equipment that came with the restaurant when we purchased it. Had we shopped for the right equipment for our needs, we would have scaled down a bit. There are lots of good, durable food slicing machines that won't cost you thousands of dollars.
First and foremost, when purchasing a meat slicer for home use or for light commercial use, you should be sure that it has ample power for what you are going to use it for. For regular home use, cutting slices from blocks of cheese, or a roast or ham, or even vegetables, such as cucumbers or tomatoes, I would recommend a machine that has at least a 100 watt motor. For a heavily used slicer, such as for restaurant or deli use, I would recommend much more.
The machine's durability is important. Even if you aren't using it regularly, it will likely get knocked around a little from getting moved from the counter to the storage cabinet and back. A machine that is made of stainless steel and aluminum will be much more durable than one that is made primarily of plastic. The cutting blade should always be a stainless steel or better quality.
If you are using your food slicer to cut lots of vegetables, it would be wise to get one that tilts up so that the food is gravity fed into the blade while the food tray is maneuvered back and forth across the blade. A food slicer that doesn't tilt is fine for cheese blocks or for bulk meat.
Most people are much happier and more satisfied with their electric food slicer if it is easy to clean. Some food slicers can be quickly and easily disassembled for easier cleaning.
Keep in mind that the Electric Food Slicers we selected as being the top food slicers were selected based upon consumer satisfaction evidenced by ratings and online reviews. Your specific needs may differ from the individuals who provided reviews of their experiences with the product. In the end, you may find that it is just worth it to spend a little more and get an electric food slicer that fits your needs, is powerful enough to do the job it was intended for properly, and is durable enough to last for years of regular use. Don't spend more than you need to spend, but don't skimp on this purchase.

EdgeCraft 610 Chef's Choice Premium Electric Food Slicer
The Chef's Choice 610 Electric Food Slicer is by far the most popular selling food and meat slicer for home use. The reviews tell it all - this food slicer is a great value. It's sturdy and dependable and will last a good, long time for household use.
This slicer comes with the serrated blade, so it's highly recommended that you add a smooth blade to your purchase if you are intending to use the slicer for cutting meat and cheese.
Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer
This electric food slicer is for the budget minded who plan to use the machine sparingly and for lighter types of food cutting. This slicer performs very well for the money, though you may find that it slows a little when cutting through blocks of cheese since they are very dense and a little stickier. Just don't make your purchase of this food slicer with over-zealous expectations, and you should be very happy with it.
Chef's Choice Electric Food Slicer Model 632 with VariTilt
The Chef's Choice 632 Electric food slicer operates flat for cutting meats and cheeses or will tilt up for gravity feeding veggies or bread into the blade. It has a 100 watt motor and a 7-inch stainless steel blade that can be removed easily for cleaning and sharpening. This is a consumer favorite meat slicer for home use.
Chef's Choice 609 Premium Electric Food Slicer
This is Chef's Choice Baseline Entry into the Food Slicer Category - and a very popular one, at that. Despite it's reasonable price, all of the structural components of this food slicer are made of stainless steel or cast aluminum. That makes it a very durable, yet light weight unit that is easy to handle.
Chef's Choice 630 Electric Household Food Slicer
The Chef's Choice 630 Electric Food Slicer is essentially the same machine as the Chef's Choice model 632, except that it doesn't tilt up to gravity feed veggies into the cutting blade. If the tilt feature isn't worth the extra $20 to you, then this may be the machine you want.

Gourmet Living Meat Slicer Review
I noticed that a number of visitors to this site are searching for reviews on the Gourmet Living Meat Slicer. I have to admit...at first, I was unaware of that brand of meat slicer. After a little online research, I realized that the Gourmet Living brand is one that I am familiar with, but not for their meat slicers. I had an experience with another small appliance they sell.
We purchased a Gourmet Living waffle maker from a discount department store in our area. They had a number of appliances of the Gourmet Living brand that were on sale at a special price. The waffle iron was about $20. We wanted a waffle iron, so decided to purchase this one.
That waffle iron lasted about 2 months before the waffles began to stick to the surface of the waffle maker something terrible. No amount of cooking spray would keep the waffles from sticking. The waffle maker quickly found itself in the garbage, and we went without waffles for awhile after that.
I can't find much information about the Gourmet Living meat slicer, but I can say that if I were purchasing an inexpensive household meat slicer in the $50 range, I would take a close look at the Continental PS77711 Professional Series Deli Slicer. I've identified it earlier on this page. This is a very popular meat slicer for home use, and is highly regarded by consumers.

Chef's Choice 667 International Professional Electric Food Slicer with 10-Inch Diameter Blade - The Ultimate Electric Food Slicer for Home Use
This is the machine for those who plan to do some serious meat and cheese cutting. This food slicer is of commercial quality. It has a huge 10-inch blade and a full 180 watts of power. This machine can handle the big jobs, and it tilts for gravity feed, too.
Chef's Choice 662 International Professional Electric Food Slicer with 8.6-Inch Diameter Blade - Little Brother to the Chef's Choice Model 667 Electric Food Slicer
The Chef's Choice Electric Food Slicer Model 662 has the same 180 watt motor that you'll find in the Model 667, but this food slicer comes with a smaller 8.6-inch blade instead of the full 10-inch blade. If you don't plan to cut from very large slabs of meat or cheese, then this food slicer may be your better choice for a commercial grade electric food slicer.

FoodSaver GameSaver Deluxe Vacuum Sealing Kit
You won't be disappointed with the FoodSaver GameSaver vacuum food sealer. It's perfect for when you purchase bulk quantities of meats and cheeses that you will slice up in your food slicer and store in smaller quantities.
I like to purchase an 8-9 pound ham, turkey breast, or roast beef for $4 per pound, or so. Then slice it up into thin lunch meat sizes and use my food sealer to portion it down to about half-pound packages for the freezer. When I do this, my lunch meats cost me less than half what I would pay at the grocery store.
Sanitary Lubricant for Meat Slicers - Suitable for Food Service Equipment
It's important to keep your household food and meat slicer well lubricated as a normal part of the care for your equipment. A well lubricated food slicer will last longer and provide better results. The important thing to note is that you must use the appropriate lubricant since the machine contacts your food.

You can't be careful enough. One slip and you will have an injury to deal with. Wearing appropriate cut resistant gloves can minimize the risk of injury while using your household meat slicer.
Blade Sharpener For Your Chef Choice Food Slicer - Keep Your Blades Sharp
The sharper the blade, the better results you will achieve. Rather than purchasing a new blade every time yours gets dull, it is much more economical to prolong the life of your current blade by keeping it sharpened.
